The context matters. As Visit Golden framed the season back in May, the United States is turning 250 and Golden is turning 150, and Buffalo Bill Days is celebrating its 80th anniversary at the same time. Three round numbers, one town. Organizers have responded by front-loading programming into a narrow window, which is why the calendar feels heavier than last year even though the individual events are familiar.
Here is what to plan around, in the order it arrives.

Five of those six weekends run through Parfet Park or the Washington Avenue corridor. If you live within walking distance of downtown, the practical consequence is parking pressure and foot traffic through late July, then a short breather, then a second wave in mid-August. Neighbors east of Ford Street tend to feel the compression more than those up toward Lookout Mountain. Plan grocery runs and appointments accordingly.
Buffalo Bill Days at 80
The signature weekend of the summer runs July 24–26. Buffalo Bill Days is a three-day western celebration with a parade down Washington Avenue, live music, arts and crafts, and food vendors gathering in Parfet Park. The 80th anniversary framing means larger crowds than a typical year, and the parade route will absorb most of the downtown core on Saturday morning.
A quieter observation for residents who have been here a decade or more: the concert programming around Buffalo Bill Days has moved noticeably indoors. At the Buffalo Rose on Washington Avenue, the same weekend brings a Thursday-night country show with Nashville artist BELLES and Colorado's Jeff Goodwin & the Front Range Cowboys on July 23, followed by Micky & The Motorcars on July 24. Both are ticketed 18+ shows with 6 p.m. doors. If you prefer a seat to a curb, that is the pairing.
The New One With No Pattern Yet
The most interesting item on this year's calendar is the one nobody has a habit for. Golden Days at New Terrain Brewing on Table Mountain Parkway, July 16–18, is brand new this year, positioned as a three-day festival built entirely around local beer, local food, and local culture. It runs the weekend before Buffalo Bill Days, which is either an act of confidence or a scheduling gamble depending on how you read it.
For design-minded residents who tend to skip the big downtown parade weekend, this is the one to try. New Terrain's site has consistently used the space for smaller programming like the Baby Goat Nights series on May 13 and August 5, and Golden Days appears to be an attempt to scale that intimate approach into a full weekend. First-year festivals reward attendance. Second-year festivals reward loyalty. This is the year to earn a shorter line at year two.
The Underlying Rhythm
Underneath the marquee weekends, the recurring programming is what actually shapes the season. A few worth building into your week rather than treating as one-offs:
- Golden Farmers Market, Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 10th & Illinois, running through October 3. An additional midweek market has been announced for this summer, with dates still forthcoming.
- Movies & Music in the Park at Parfet Park. July 10 pairs Balto with the Atomic Jones Band. August 7 pairs a live-action Lilo & Stitch with The Beloved Invaders. Music at 7 p.m., films after sunset.
- Baby Goat Yoga at Lions Park, 9 a.m. on July 19, August 22, and September 20. Bottle-fed goats, one hour, and a small enough scale that it fills quickly.
- Blacksmithing in the Park, third Saturdays through December at Golden History Park, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free live demonstrations, and one of the few things on this list that scales down for a short visit with a restless kid.
- Colorado Railroad Museum summer train rides, Thursdays through Sundays into mid-August. Colorado Power Days over Father's Day weekend brought steam locomotive rides and live demonstrations, and the standard summer program keeps the vintage diesel and steam coaches running on weekend afternoons.
Add The Golden Mill's weekly programming to the list. The former flour and feed mill downtown runs Yoga on the Rooftop on Friday mornings, Trivia Night sponsored by Station 26 on Wednesdays, a Latin Music Series with the Gio Barabadze Trio on July 26, and the 4th Annual Dine Out for Ukraine on July 23. Five culinary concepts and two self-pour tap walls sit under one historic roof, and the creekside and rooftop patios make it one of the few venues in town that reads well whether you have twenty minutes or four hours.
An Afternoon Note About the Creek
Clear Creek is running through the middle of all of this, and the city updates safety and level information regularly on the Visit Golden site. It is worth checking before you decide to tube or wade rather than assuming last weekend's conditions still apply.
For a hot afternoon that does not involve the water, Bridgewater Grill at the Golden Hotel on 11th Street has just reopened its renovated patio with a clean line of sight to Clear Creek and the foothills. The menu leans into Colorado Proud sourcing with dishes like Rosa's Award-Winning Pork Green Chili and a Prime Rib French Dip. Patio seating is first come, first served, which in practical terms means arriving before 5 p.m. on a Buffalo Bill Days weekend or waiting.
The best thing about living in a town with a busy calendar is that you get to opt out with confidence. You know what is happening. You know what you are skipping. That is not the same thing as missing out.
A Small Design Aside

Parfet Park will host at least four distinct crowds between now and mid-August, and the way the same footprint absorbs an art festival, a movie night, a parade day, and a farmers-market spillover is a useful reminder that the best rooms and the best public spaces share the same virtue. The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra kicks off its fall season at the Colorado School of Mines Green Center soon after, and the Golden Cruise winds down at the end of October.

The compression is real, the anniversaries are real, and the town will feel different for the next six weeks than it did in June or than it will in September.
